Brainclaw review on UK Hardwired site

Monday, January 26th, 2004

HardwiredGreat Britain is now INFECTED. Highly regarded UK alternative website HARD-WIRED has just posted a stellar review of the Brainclaw 2004 Promo CD. Staff writer Carl Jenkinson had these nice things to say about Brainclaw…

“There’s nothing quite as exciting as a demo that makes you jump up down with excitement, knowing that you have discovered a superb new band that you just can’t wait to tell everybody about. Well that’s what this 6-track offering from the US duo of Tara Kurtz & David Giuffre did to me. If there’s any justice in this world then they’re going to be huge. Giuffre has released albums under the Brainclaw name before now but, with new recruit Kurtz on board the time is right for them to really set the EBM world on fire.

Their music is an explosive electro industrial cocktail that foregoes any modern techno influences in favour of rock-style rhythms such as those found on the opening “Dead Life”. As good as this track is it’s merely the calm before the storm as the duo unleash a salvo of absolutely top class tracks with the instantly addictive “Unsafe” among them, along with “Softkill” which is almost certain to appeal to NIN fans, although Brainclaw take the possibilities so much further. “Insekt/Angel” is another winner as the muscular mid-paced rhythms acts as a basis for a series of hooks that will not let you go with the choir effects that add a darkly majestic touch being the icing on the cake, even the ending is superb! The darker overtones that run throughout the disc hint at possible gothic tendancies.

These are given full rein on “When The Dark Rains Come” which is totally evocative of it’s title, being melancolic & melodramatic simulataneously, It’s easy to see how they managed to get on the “Matrix Revolution” DVD soundtrack album! When Brainclaw’s album “Insekt/Angel” is released in February I’m totally convinced it’s going to blow your minds, this is the future of electronic music & it rocks!”
