Brainclaw – 2003 Promo CD

“The electro-project Brainclaw was established by David Giuffre in 1988 and over the years, he has published a number of diverse albums. Their new CD Insekt/Angel, which through the addition of Tara Lessard grew into a duo project, will be out in stores sometime in February 2004. 2003 is a promo-maxi, which features the songs Insekt/Angel, Incessant Surveillance and When The Dark Rains Come. Those three tracks can be downloaded at www.brainclaw.com. Brainclaw is already winning fans with Insect/Angel. In this mid-tempo electro-song the groovy verses switch off with the massive synths and the sounds and voices dominate the chorus. Especially noticeable is the emphasis placed on the switch between Tara and David’s vocals, which is also a highlight of the other two tracks. The conclusion of those songs is also incredibly imaginative. Featuring a strong techno style, Incessant Surveillance is similar to Insekt/Angel, but a bit more danceable. At the end of the song you’ll hear the phrase “I think you’re killing me,” a gunshot, the dropping sound of a single empty shell casing. Nice! When The Dark Rains Come, with a melodramatic intro, which has been released on the Matrix Revolutions DVD soundtrack, (Insekt/Angel can be found on the Spiderman Collector’s Edition DVD) reminds us a bit (both musically and vocally) of Rob Zombie and rocks a lot - even without guitars, although the vocals could sound a bit more aggressive in the refrain. Even though the three songs still sound a bit rough and could clearly benefit by improving the vocals somewhat, Brainclaw delivers a very nice soundtrack. This is a band that you should keep your eye on!”
